Sisterhood & Support

Hey Yall,

The Bible is full of stories that reveal the beauty and strength of community, especially among women. In both 3 John 1 and Luke 1:1–56, we see powerful examples of support, encouragement amongst friends. Take some time this week and read those two stories and write down what God may be saying to you and how you can relate.

In 3 John 1, we meet Gaius, a friend of John's. The Apostle John recognizes him for his faithfulness and hospitality, not just to his friends, but to strangers as well. This letter, reminds us that walking in truth and showing love in action is what builds lasting relationships.

In Luke 1, the story stars with Elizabeth's husband, doubting a miracle that God told the angel Gabriel to tell him (he would have a son in his old age), so he immediately stopped his ability to speak, and he wasn't able to talk until the baby was born 9 months later. But, the focus shifts to two women: Elizabeth and Mary. Their story is an example of true sisterhood. When young Mary (a teenager) and newly pregnant with Jesus, visits Elizabeth, who is also miraculously expecting.

Elizabeth, was past her childbearing age (she was an elderly woman) and previously shamed for being barren, is now six months pregnant with John the Baptist. For years, Elizabeth had lived in seclusion. For three months Mary stayed to help Elizabeth to support and encourage her during her last months of pregnancy.

Their time together is a model of sisterhood: women uplifting each other

In a world that often compares, isolates, dismisses, or overlooks women its important to have community, not just any community, but a positive, Christ-centered community. You don't have to do life alone.
